Name: Krien Felitauna, but she hasn't allowed anyone to call her that in so long no one knows it any longer. She simply goes by Kri.
Age: unknown
Gender: female
Species: werecat demi goddess
Sign: Caludan or Lepus ( this is what people guess from watching her, as she doesn't remember her birthdate )
Occupation: Advisor to the Demi Goddess of the Mist Realm / librarian
Appearance: Being a werecat, she possesses three forms: a fully Taurian form, a fully feline form that looks something like a cross between a lynx and a tiger, and a half-feline, half-Taurian form. She prefers this last, as it gives her the benefits of both other forms.
- hair - Long, thick, and rough-cut, her hair is the color of hay and usually held out of her face in variously-colored bandanas.
- eyes - Almost constantly narrowed appraisingly or cynically, her eyes are an irridescent forest green. When in her feline-esque forms, they reflect light and are slit-pupiled like that of any domestic cat. As a Taurian, they appear to be and function as regular eyes.
- height - 5'8" when in her humanoid forms and five feet at the shoulder when in feline form.
- weight - 140 in humanoid forms, quite a bit more as a feline, though she hasn't even tried to guess at that one.
- build - She is very lithe and curvy, her body a suple build of feline balance. She didn't inherit the physical brawn of her Taurian half, but she is very fast and has the lightning reflexes of her feline heritage. She is extremely defensive about her height, as she's been taunted for her miniscule size in comparison to her Taurian relatives for eons.
- clothing - Quite frankly, Kri doesn't spare any thought for clothing. She's covered in fur, so she really doesn't require it. Therefore, if it's comfortable over her fur, she'll wear it.
- weapons - She doesn't fight as a rule and were she to need to, her powers as a demi goddess are plenty of a defense. However, if she wishes to remain unobtrusive, she'll carry an assortment of knives with her, secreted in her clothing. Claws do well in combat as well...
- other - As a werecat, she has furry, flaxen ears most of the time, as well as a versatile tail of the same colored fur. Her eyeteeth are rather sharp and she has transluscent retractable claws in place of nails. She is covered in a silken coat of fine fur, orange-brown in color and interspursed with black stripes.
Abilities: As a demi goddess, she possesses various ablities in many areas and not all are documented. However, she speciallizes in paranormal powers, such as telepathy and telekenesis. This comes in handy when in her feline form and unable to communicate physically.
Weaknesses: Loud noises and water are her weakest points, as well as her somewhat volatile temper. She also dislikes heights but she'll never let you know it.
Personality: Kri has lived for a very long time, lived through things few but the oldest races have seen, and witnessed nearly every atrocity known to any species. She has personally learned the meaning of the merits of loving and losing, in many senses of the word. Needless to say, she is disillusioned and has become rather bitter and cynical. She cares for only a select couple individuals and barely tolerates most others. However, she is very capable of being polite and even kind when she wants to or the occasion calls for it. While she isn't purposefully evil, she derives a nearly sadistic sense of amusement from toying with people; probably an effect of her feline heritage. She values her privacy above nearly all other things and needs her space. Quite a lot of it, too. She almost never uses the abilities she possesses as a demi goddess, seeing no point in doing so, but she has always been revered as the goddess of the Taurian people because of her loyalty to them through all of their shared trials.
Likes: Silence; solitude; knowledge / intelligence; her people; Daliah, her goddaughter, and Dis; curiosities; books; cold weather; animals
Dislikes: Water; heights; ignorance; disrespect; melodrama; vanity; humans; children
History: Ages ago, when the worlds had only just been formed by Bahamut's last work of power, a primitive god existed. He'd survived the great war with Bahamut out of default, a neutral servant of one of the elder gods. After the war, he was released from his service and began wandering the realms before settling in an area he favored. There he was worshiped by an equally primitive race of feline people, the modern idea of werecats, who were barely intelligent but had an instinctual cunning all their own. The god found this race amusing and even went so far as to fashion his own likeness to match theirs. Even when the race began to dwindle and change as centuries passed, he retained the original form of that people. The feline people eventually disappeared altogether, their decendants forming into a race not at all feline, but still retaining heightened senses, developing a superior intellect with that old hint of cunning. They soon became known as Taurians, still revering the god as their patron diety, calling him Felitauna. With subtle guidance and aid from Felitauna, the Taurians became a race to be reckoned with, highly skilled in many trades, impressive warriors, and extremely intellectual. They had good, peaceful lives most of the time and warred with none unless directly threatened. Their empire was one of the most feared and respected, often called upon to act as mediators in the disputes of other races because of their reputation as impartial and fair judges.
But, as is inevitable with immortal beings, Felitauna eventually became restless. He would leave for long periods of time, traipsing off to the gods only knew where, only checking upon his people occasionally to make sure they continued ruling themselves wisely. During one such period of disappearance, he visited the royal family of the country to monitor briefly. During his stay, he became fascinated with one of the women of the nobility named Telein, a Taurian of beauty and presence. No one knows what transpired between the two, other than that several years later, the woman disappeared at the same time it was noticed that Felitauna was once again absent. More than a decade passed and the last ruler had only just passed away when Felitauna made his next appearance. He came only long enough to proclaim that Telein would be returning soon and was to be made the next ruler of the Taurian race. The news was taken with surprise but accepted readily enough. There was no designated successor, and she was a direct decendant, so there were few objections. When Telein appeared at the door to the palace not soon after, she looked not a day older than when last seen and carried herself with an air of self-possession she hadn't before possessed. In addition to this poise, she held a newborn infant in her arms, a tiny girlchild who, according to any who'd had the honor of seeing the god, bore a remarkable likeness to Felitauna.
Telein, in time, became one of the most well-loved rulers, remembered for her wisdom and foresight. It was said she was advised by Felitauna himself, but this rumor wasn't confirmed, as the beloved god was never again seen in the Taurian Realm.
The child she brought with her, her own daughter, was named Krien. She was given the second name of Felitauna, as it was obvious that she was the revered diety's own offspring, a demi goddess. From the day she became known to the general population, she was accorded the same respect as her supernatural father. From the day she understood what was going on and why she was revered above others, she did everything in her power to gain a modicome of privacy.
Kri herself remembers little about her childhood. She is old enough that the memories have faded to nonexistance. More is written in the Taurian records than she remembers, so she will just quote that if asked about her younger years. At an uncannily young age, Krien was self-aware and intelligent, though undeveloped. Being the child of a god, she her mental growth was accelerated even while her physical growth was slowed. In effect, she thought like a five-year-old at age two though she looked like no more than an infant. She acted as a ten-year-old would at age five but looked like a toddler, and so on. This phenomenon confused many. She looked like a tiny kitten girl but never acted like the carefree child she should have been. She was given every privelege and lived a veritably perfect childhood, but instead of becoming spoiled, she was a serious and tacit child, polite but rarely charming, and seemed to prefer to be alone or with her mother than with anyone else. She never made close friends and kept her own council. She never threw tantrums, seeming to understand instinctively at that young age that there was no point. Even as a child she disconcerted the people around her. The only one who seemed to understand her unchildlike attitude was her mother. Telein, having spent arguably more time around Felitauna than any other mortal being, could only have expected her daughter to be quite a bit like her father.
Krien was born looking so much like her father that she was always recognized as what she was. Even when she discovered at age twenty ( still looking like a ten-year-old ) that she could assume a wholly un-feline appearance, she didn't look completely Taurian. She was small and thin with lighter hair than the norm for her kind, not at all like the tall, brawny, swarthy Taurians around her. So she was still recognized for who she was, even if her people were usually too respectful to bring up her shortcomings to her face.
She soon discovered that her only refuge was with her mother and in the privacy of her own mind. She spent time with her mother when her presence was required for propriety and was often used as leverage in negotiations. Few other kingdoms were willing to make trouble with a people who were so favored by their diety that one of his offspring lived with them. Plus, as she grew, she came to possess an astounding knowledge of politics and debate, as well as being able to act as a keen advisor to her mother with her budding telepathic abilities. She couldn't help but pick up on the emotions and surface thoughts of those around her and it bothered her, though she didn't let on to any but her mother. When she wasn't asked to appear in public, she would withdraw to her rooms or to the gardens and forests around the palace, there to stay until called out once more. She was a very restless child throughout her younger years, though she was responsible enough to never inconvenience those around her. When she became particularly troubled, she would read and go into another world to get away. This happened more and more as she grew and she eventually amassed an impressive personal library. This was also the time when she took on her nickname of Kri, distancing herself from the ever-present legacy of her father that hung over head.
By the time her mother died of old age at 116, Kri's development had come to a halt at the physical appearance of someone in her mid twenties. She was by then rarely seen at anything other than mandatory social functions or important international dealings. It was suggested soon after Telein's death that her daughter should take over her place as ruler. Kri instantly and vehemently objected. She adamantly refused to become the next in line for the throne. The Taurians had little choice but to accept her decision or risk her displeasure. While she had never shown a tendancy to anything more than short spurts of temper when angered and weren't afraid of actual harm from her hands, they didn't want to alienate their demi goddess. So she was given the place as advisor to the new ruler who was appointed as a compromise.
Kri existed this way for the next several centuries, an advisor for each new ruler that came to power, keeping her people on the right track. During that time she built her home, the Paradise Library, away from the palace. It was her refuge, a massive building holding the books she collected, over time compiling just about every written work in the Realms. It was large enough that her private chambers, hidden on the top story, were rarely violated by visitors. The courtyard at the center of the large library complex was another of her private places, hidden in a labirynth of shelves. It was never entered until one day, as Kri wandered near the fishpond, she saved a tiny, idiotic little butterfly from impending doom at the mouths of the koi below. Having done the good deed and briefly admonished the creature, Kri was fully intending to let it go and return to her book when the butterfly turned into a girl without warning and proceeded to launch herself at her in a hug. Then, a moment later, she passed out.
After saving her book from the blood seeping from the other girl, Kri resigned herself to the breach of her sanctuary and patched her up, putting her in one of the guest rooms. Later, Kri would bemoan that this was the worst mistake of her life, though privately she will never be able to regret it. The girl, who's name she found was Daliah, remained in the library to recover from her wounds. Kri could never manage to get straight answers about Daliah from the flighty girl. She seemed to have simply appeared from nowhere. She had powers Kri had never seen before and acted like royalty, but was the most childish person Kri had ever met. Furthermore, Kri couldn't read the girl's emotions or thoughts. While it was disconcerting, Kri found that it was comforting to not know. Daliah fast grew on the antisocial demi goddess and was permitted to stay a disgracefully long time. When a group of Mystic Realm soldiers were caught snooping in her library, Kri was annoyed and about to have them thrown out. Then they came across Daliah, sleeping in late as usual, and instantly set about kidnapping Kri's guest. No longer merely annoyed, Kri was ready to have them executed for their audacity when Daliah woke up, said a few mumbled words to them, and quieted down. Perplexed and ticked off, Kri demanded answers. She had to wait for her friend to make herself her morning tea before she got them. Then she was treated to the rather astonishing news that her houseguest of the last five years was in fact the demi goddess and rightful ruler of the Mystic Realm. As the matter was resolved, Kri found herself soon after without her charge once more, though Daliah continued to pop in for impomptu visits quite regularly. When Daliah had children, to the shock of all, especially Kri, Kri instantly gravitated toward the oldest triplet. Sky became her goddaughter and Kri spent copious amounts of time with the child prodigy.
It was hardly a century after this that the Realms were once again faced with turmoil. In the ensuing Collapse, the Taurian Realm was completely destroyed, along with Kri's library and the only man Kri had ever become close to. It was devastating, but Kri held herself together long enough to lead what was left of her people to the realm of her friend Daliah, where they have settled since the Collapse of their country, recouperating.
As for Kri, just after settling her people into the Mist Realm, she disappeared. No one other than Daliah and her children have seen Kri for the last century. It is suspected she's been holed up in the Mist Palace, mourning her library. Recently, however, there have been reports that the demi goddess is beginning to return to society, or at least her old antisocial routines.
