Though Bahamut killed all of the gods and recompartmented the universes into separate connecting realms, the great king of dragons had no power over the aspects of life or death. Life itself is a mass of energy collected into a conscious entity: a soul. Like all energy, it cannot be destroyed, nor can it be from nothing created, merely converted into a different form. For one to live, another must die. That is the principal of life itself: life and death must always be kept in balance. Death and life took on personas of their own after the destruction of the gods, as none of the gods were around to oversee the flow and balance of energy in the world. The gods themselves were beings of high energy and when their deaths came, the massive balance of energy disrupted the world even after Bahamut re-created it.
Life and death spread out the energies of the perished gods so that life blossomed all across the new realms. It was a golden era with life and new races appearing from the flow of energy throughout the worlds. Everything was good and peaceful. There were deaths, but all of them natural and peaceful. The dead once more returned to the collective energy stream and were reborn. Life and death were content and satisfied seeing all of their creations live in peace and thrive. In order to keep maintain balance, Life and Death created the very first angel. Since there was no need for him at first, the angel was placed into slumber and left there for thousands of years.
The then nomadic humans began to cluster into small tribes and began to restart their civilization. The tribes of humans began to battle one another for land and resources. The worlds were stained with blood as the ancient men began to spiral down the path of chaos and bloodshed. They used up the resources of each world and began to disrupt the balance of life and death. The souls of the dead from the wars and horrors were discontented and unable to move on. Their malice tainted the stream of energy that flowed from world to world and soon all the worlds were tainted with their darkness. Even life and death became tainted and slowly lost their love for their creations. Sickened with humanity and the amount of atrocities committed by them, they set forth to purge the worlds.
The angel created so long ago was awakened to fulfill their will. The angel was given form, power, a soul, and a spear made from life’s flesh and death’s hair. The angel was without name as it followed orders almost machine like, purging race after race. The nameless angel quickly became known as the Genocidal Angel. The angel traveled the lands and destroyed as he went along, quickly moving on from world to world. The angel eventually came to an unknown world where he met the Kuralin people (ancestors of the Tuarians) who seemed humanoid yet were pure in soul and nature. The angel found it hard to bring himself to slay these people. The more he thought about this, the more he began to question his duty, his purpose.
All the confused emotions inside of him, a being who was pure and without evil, spurred on madness. He was pure being, yet all of the people he'd killed indiscriminately... Did they really have to be killed? In his madness, he disappeared from the world. Seeing the disappearance of their child, Life and Death moved on with their cleansing of the worlds without him, corrupted beyond caring. They reached the world of the Kuralin people a hundred years later where they were met by the angel once more. This time he stood against them, to stop them from destroying the realms, and for his own redemption.
He fought against them, with all the anger and sadness inside of him still fresh. Both life and death were confused at his actions and were hesitant to destroy this child made especially to be pure, but they fought him none the less. Their battle shook all the realms to the core. A battle of such magnitude had not been seen since the time of Bahamut. Most people believed this to be the end of the world. Their battle reached its climax when the angel managed to push them into a empty world. A barren one stripped of anything that could live.
The angel fought valiantly though he was still a part of them and so was his weapon. As he was about to deliver another flurry of strikes with his spear, he felt a hot stabbing pain erupt in his wings. The next thing he knew, he was pinned to the ground, large, searing spikes of energy piercing his wings and keeping him tacked down. Life and Death planned to keep him sealed away in this barren world until they finished their purge and could question him about his actions at their leasure. However, as they were leaving, the angel was upon them. Blood streamed from his back as he rushed them, his wings still pinned to the ground, torn off by his own will to stop his creators.
Shocked by the angel’s actions and his determination, they were caught off guard as the angel managed to seal them away in a prison of their own flesh and blood: his spear. The angel rammed the spear into the ground in the barren world near where his torn wings were. Where the spear struck, life began to bloom. The shaft of the spear branched out and expanded. The spearhead melted and became long tendrils which dug deep into the ground and even to the other realms. This world eventually became known as the nature realm, where the legendary Tree of Life grows, though few know the true origins of the massive plant.
