A small wispy trail of hot breath turned to mist upon touching the cold air of the night. The mist faded away into the darkness that lay over the land as the pummel of the rain caused deafening white noise. Amidst the rain, soaked and tired, a young man stood under a tattered umbrella. His clothes were soaked and clinging the skin of his slender frame. His coat was huddled close to his body to save whatever warmth he had left. Unarmed and without money, this young man had gotten lost in the many winding forests of the nature realm. His travels had brought him here in search of family who were said to reside here. The couple he was looking for was a rather odd one. The male was said to be rather kindhearted and docile, the female as rumors tell: was airy and a traveler. The path seemed smaller all of sudden as the young man continued his forlorn march through the forest: accompanied by the shadowy claws of trees as a background. He knew it. He could feel the water seep through his boots and he knew that if he did not get to higher ground soon, a flood will wash away him and any hope of finding family.
He brushed past the foliage to steep ground, leading up the cliff face of a small mountain. It was too rainy to climb such a geographical feature, but there was a trail winding up around the mountain. It would have to do for now. Getting to higher ground was a priority. Without giving a second thought, he brushed his matted brown hair away from his golden eyes and went at it. The tattered reed and stick umbrella had more holes in it then a Medicare plan. The wind alone was tearing up the umbrella pretty badly, but it was the only form of protection he had: as meager as it made of been.

Such a cold and rainy night it was tonight. It was almost bone chilling. If one were to walk, it would be very easy to see their own breaths in the night air. There was no moon on this night. No, it was only the wind and heavy pounding rain. This wasn't such a problem to a certain rain protected female. Sure she was a bit wet, but most of her was protected by her large water resistant cloak made of a special fabric by the elves. It was always good to have friends from different races. It meant you got special things to help you in situations such as this. Such a beautiful cloak it was. Long and ever green flowing. Gold embroadered roses trailed at every edge of the cloak. The large hood was up, protecting her long fragile golden hair. Over her hood she held a simple umbrella. It was nothing to fancy, just enough to keep her body covered from the down pour.
The mud seemed to only get thicker as she went up the large mountanous slope. "Thicker mud...and it's actually moving down hill. There will be a mud slide soon." She said as she scanned the dark forest. She noticed a strong built tree and figured she would use it as protection. "Might as well climb and brave the storm." She said as she too ka right on the trail and began her climb. It was a good thing she had smart, natural instincts. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed a straggling traveler. She frowned and let out a sigh. "It's the good samaritan thing right?" She seemed to ask the gods from above. She shook her head and called out to him, "Excuse me! Traveling sir, you might want to get up in a strong sturdy tree if you hope to survive this mountain trail. Their will be a mud slide eventually with all this rain and mud." She yelled out loudly with strong vocal chords. 'Pays to be a dragon. Better vocals.' she thought proudly.

Try as he must, the young man only made it up about halfway up the slope before losing his footing and slipping back down the bottom: even losing hold of his umbrella on the way down. As he went down the umbrella went astray in the wind, but was desperately caught by the young man with both hands clasping down on it. He lead a pretty hard life after his father’s death and that umbrella was the one of the few things he had left of his father: he couldn’t lose it, no matter what. He always wanted to fix up the umbrella one day and restore to that once pristine state that it once was in. Living on the streets and wandering about scrapping for food during the chaos after the Collapse, meant he didn’t have the material or the time to fix up a memento. Like so many others, his father died in the Collapse, but he never knew his father: he was still a babe when his father left. His mother went with his father leaving him with the nanny who only kept him alive to squander away whatever money was left for him. After it was gone she simply threw him out into the streets with the umbrella. The young man only knew that he still had some family living somewhere in the Nature Realm.
Suddenly there was a voice shouting at him at which he turned to look. He didn’t ask question as he shoved the umbrella under his arm and ran off to the tree at which he tripped once over a root in the dark of the night before reaching the tree. A little battered up and worst for wear, but he managed to make his way up the tree after getting a good enough grip. Once up he looked over at the girl sitting in there with him. “Oh hello.” He said softly, his voice barely audible above the rain before extending his free hand to her, “My name is Shoji.”
